Chances are that you are providing some form of Caries Risk Assessment in your practice, but if you are not recording it you are not getting the most out of this valuable tool. You know your patients’ oral health and habits better than anyone, but risk assessment is almost never taken through to completion. Quite often, we only get as far as offering patient education about toothpastes, rinses and dietary changes. Research shows that applying fluoride varnish 1-4 times a year dependent upon personalized risk can greatly reduce disease, but how do we decide who will benefit? Using simple questions and procedures, this course will take you from the waiting room, through the appointment, and even home with the patient to effectively reduce their chance of future decay.
In this CE webinar, you will learn a quick and easy method for uncovering the most common evidence-based risk factors that affect your adult patients. Using ADA findings and recommendations, you will discover that a majority of your patients are likely to benefit from a risk reduction strategy including varnish. We will also discuss overcoming the main barriers for treatment; treatment time involved, cost to the patient, poor insurance coverage and lack of practice philosophy. When everyone puts risk assessment into action your patients and practice will be healthier and you will be their partner in health.
At the conclusion of this CE webinar, the participant will be able to: • Quickly assess the adult patients’ risk level using an evidence-based list of known risk factors • Effectively communicate the long-term benefits of fluoride varnish as a risk reduction tool for adults • Provide assessment and treatment with minimal change to your current hygiene appointment • Establish an office protocol promoting caries risk assessment as an important part of patient and practice health
